Stone & Steam delivers premium bathroom renovations and outdoor tiling in Bulli and the Northern Illawarra coast. Natural stone, travertine, coastal-grade specification. Based locally, fixed quotes, personal service from brief to handover.
A Bulli Point property renovated with travertine across the back patio, upstairs entertaining area, and both bathrooms. The brief was a consistent natural stone finish inside and out — materials that suit the coastal setting and hold up to it.
Travertine is one of the most demanding materials to specify correctly for a coastal property. It requires a fixing system rated for outdoor exposure and temperature movement, a penetrating sealer appropriate for the stone's porosity, and careful attention to grout selection so the joints don't trap moisture or stain. The brief here was to run the same stone through the back patio, up through the upstairs entertaining area, and into the bathrooms — creating a consistent material language through the whole home. The upstairs bathroom featured a double vanity with double mirrors, and the shower was built with a custom recessed tiled shelf integrated into the wet wall. Four distinct areas, one material, one team managing all of it.
Bulli and the Northern Illawarra coast is part of Stone & Steam's regular working region. Coastal properties have specific requirements — materials and fixing systems that perform in the conditions — and that's built into every quote we write for this area.
Properties in Bulli and along the Northern Illawarra escarpment face salt air, higher UV exposure, and more significant temperature variation than inland homes. The fixing systems, grout types, and sealers used on outdoor travertine here are specified differently to the same job 20km inland. Stone & Steam has completed enough coastal work in this corridor to know what holds and what doesn't.
Most bathroom renovators won't touch the outdoor patio. Most outdoor tilers don't manage a full bathroom renovation. Stone & Steam works across both — which means if your brief covers a bathroom and an outdoor area, they're quoted and managed together. No co-ordination gap between separate trades, no inconsistency in the finish.
Patrick manages every renovation personally from initial site visit to final handover. When the scope covers multiple areas — patios, bathrooms, entertaining spaces — that consistency matters more than it does on a single-room job. There's no version of the brief that gets misread between handoffs.
Stone & Steam is based in the Illawarra and has been working in Bulli and the Northern Illawarra coast for years. No travel margin in your quote, faster response times, and a track record you can verify through referrals from previous clients in the area.
These ranges reflect current Illawarra project costs. Natural stone and travertine finishes sit at the upper end of the ranges — coastal-grade specification and material procurement add to the base renovation cost.

Request a quote"We wanted travertine through the patios and both bathrooms — a consistent natural stone look throughout the home. Patrick managed the whole scope and the result is exactly what we asked for. The coastal spec was right, the finish is tight, and it's held up perfectly."
"What we appreciated most was that Patrick understood the coastal specification issues without being prompted. He flagged the right sealer, the right grout, and explained why — not just what. That kind of knowledge makes a real difference on a property like ours."
"Stone & Steam tiled our back patio and upstairs entertaining area alongside a full bathroom renovation. One quote, one team, one point of contact throughout. The consistency across every area is what stands out — it all looks like it was planned as one project, because it was."
