Stone-Look Porcelain with Blue Herringbone Feature Showers

The client's brief was a full two-bathroom renovation with a coherent material and colour story across both rooms. Stone-look porcelain was selected for its durability and consistency with the rest of the home — a large-format tile that reads as natural stone without the maintenance demands. Both showers were tiled with a blue herringbone feature wall, scaled to suit each room. The main bathroom featured a bold cobalt herringbone with a double vanity, gold tapware and fixtures, and a freestanding bath positioned to make use of the space. The second bathroom picked up the same language in a softer blue, with its own freestanding bath. Downstairs, a concrete screed was laid level across the living area floor to receive the floating timber floors — a preparation scope often overlooked until the floors start moving.

White Herringbone Ensuite

A separate Woonona ensuite renovation — white herringbone feature wall behind the vanity, paired with a full-height shaving cabinet mirror. Clean, tight layout. The herringbone pattern was set to align with the vanity centre, with the mirror panel designed to sit flush against the feature wall and read as part of the same composition.

Why Woonona Homeowners Choose Stone & Steam

Woonona is part of Stone & Steam's regular working region. The projects above are local — not imported examples from elsewhere. When you ask for a reference, we can point you to a house in your suburb.

Feature shower specification — not just tiling

A herringbone feature shower is one of the most technically demanding wet area finishes to execute correctly. The layout needs to originate from the right datum, the waterproofing behind the feature wall needs to be continuous and tested, and the grout joint needs to hold its colour and stay clean over time. Stone & Steam has done this repeatedly — in different tile formats and colours — and the results hold up.

Multi-room scope — one quote, one team

The Woonona two-bathroom renovation above covered two wet areas and a floor screed — three distinct scopes, managed as one project. That kind of multi-room brief is where the coordination gap between separate trades causes most problems. Stone & Steam takes on the full scope so there's one person accountable for the outcome across every area.

Floor preparation — not an afterthought

Floating floors fail when the substrate isn't right. A floor screed laid correctly — level, cured, correctly bonded to the slab — is the difference between a floating floor that performs for 20 years and one that creaks and cups within two. Stone & Steam includes screed preparation when it's part of a full renovation scope, not as an add-on after the bathrooms are done.

Based in the Illawarra — no travel premium

Stone & Steam is Illawarra-based. Woonona is on our doorstep — there's no travel component in your quote, faster mobilisation, and a team with local references you can check.

Yes. Stone & Steam has completed herringbone feature shower installations across multiple Woonona and Illawarra projects — in blue, white, and other formats. Herringbone in a wet area requires precise layout from the right datum, continuous waterproofing behind the feature wall, and careful grout selection. We manage the full specification and installation.
Yes. Stone & Steam prepares concrete screed beds as part of multi-room renovation scopes. A correctly laid screed — level, fully cured, properly bonded to the slab — is the critical base for floating floors. We include screed preparation when it's part of a broader renovation brief, so the whole project is under one scope.
Yes — and it's often more efficient to do it that way. When two bathrooms are renovated together, the tile selection, fixings, grouting, and waterproofing can be managed as a single scope. This reduces the coordination cost and ensures the finishes are consistent across both rooms. Stone & Steam regularly takes on multi-room renovation briefs.
